“He rocks in the tree-top all a day long
Hoppin’ and a-boppin’ and a-singin’ the song
All the little birds on J-Bird St.
Love to hear the robin goin’ tweet tweet tweet”

Remember this song? “Rockin’ Robin” first introduced to us by Bobby in 1958. The chorus of the song is exactly what “twitting” is all about. We’re given highfaluting words, simply put “Twitter” is a vehicle using todays technology to convey a thought, a message, even an idea. Oh yeah, you can have ongoing conversations with a friend, or friends. These are called posts, whether expressing your own thoughts or responding to someone elses, in todays parlance.

Twitter’s platform allows you to initiate, respond, even offer an opinion on a message of which you are allowed to view. The terms “social networking” and “micro-blogging” are synonymous with Twitter. It is what you do, “…rocks in the tree top all day long, hoppin and boppin and a singin the song, all the little birds on J bird street, love to hear the robin goin’ tweet, tweet, tweet…” when you post, comment, or reply on Twitter, you “tweet.”

Growing up in the 60s, comic books, television, and the carnival were sources of entertainment I could never get enough of. Communication was limited to either the telephone, snail mail, or meeting the person face to face. Of course, the range of whom you could call was limited, not everyone had a telephone. I remember an afternoon when someone forgot to pick me up at school. All the other kids had left, picked up by their parents or driven home by the school bus, and there I was, waiting. The offices were closed; just me and the custodian on the school grounds. My ride arrived as twilight came.

I mention that with this in mind, if “Twitter” had been around, I would have been home earlier. Friends or family who’d have been tuned in might have done something about my dillema. Twitter is a way to network with the rest of the world, around the block, or just in the room next to you. Twitter is text based in which you are allotted 140 characters, the readers won’t be subjected to reading something that seem endless. Yup, there are some of us who love to write novels. It is true, short and sweet, direct to the point.

Who benefits from using Twitter? Depending on your frame of mind, everyone should. It can be used for research, to network with like minded people, friends, to reinforce visibility, promote goodwill, like I said, depending on your frame of mind, you can tweet.

As evidenced by the changing world market, you can use Twitter as a marketing tool. If you are a business owner looking to expand your marketing strategies, there are ways you can take advantage of the following Twitter has. Your added exposure on Twitter can benefit you with the right tools in place with the proper strategy. As social creatures, we have a penchant to usufruct any advantage technology has given us; such should be our approach when using Twitter. Twitter offers marketing tools based on the features it already has. Whatever you choose to utilize, consider to include the advantages Twitter will give you when putting your game-plan together.
