The initial name of the codename or product for the service was given as “twttr”. It is inspired by the Flickr and another reality that the American SMS, short codes are of five characters. Initially there was an experiment with “10958” by the developers as a kind of short code, though later it was changed to “40404″.It then became more memorability and easy to use. Work on the main project started on March 21 in the year of 2006, when Dorsey issued its first Twitter note at 12:50 PM (PST) Pacific Standard Time.

Entirely “Twitter” has risen over US$57 million from the venture capitalist. But it was not publicly released about the exact sum of funding. Twitter’s initial round of support was for a totally undisclosed sum that is rumored to have between the $1 million and $5 million. Its second round of funding in the year of 2008 was around $22 million and the third turn of funding in the year 2009 was about $35 million from the Benchmark Capital and Institutional Venture Partners along with a hidden amount from the other investors including Spark Capital and the Union Square Ventures. Twitter is also backed by Digital Garage, Bezos and Union Square Ventures.

The board member of “Twitter” Todd Chaffee forecasted that the company can make currency from the e-commerce; since the company had a direct involvement regarding the promotion of such products.

After a retrieved by hacker some of the Twitter’s documents covering user growth and revenue were published on the Tech Crunch. These were all the internal projections of the year 2009, where would have revenues of $400,000, $4millio in the third and the fourth quarter respectively along with the 25 million subscribers at the conclusion of the year. The other projections for the ending of the year 2013 were calculated up to $1.54 billion in revenue, $111 million at the net earnings with 1 billion of subscribers. There was no information published regarding the plans of the “Twitter” to achieve those figures. There was the only possibility, that “Evan Williams” the Twitter co-founder issued a blog post suggesting the legal step for revealing the company’s details.

Twitter has been depicted as parallel to the Web-based IRC (Internet Relay Chat). Web interface in “Twitter” uses the frame work of Ruby on Rails.   From the mid of 2007 to 2008 the real messages were under the server of Ruby persistent queue called Starling. But later on since the year of 2009 this has been slowly restored in software written with Scala.

The service’s like API (Application programming interface) allows the other web application and services to incorporate with “Twitter”. It generally builds the use of the hashtags during the searches on system, phrases or words prefixed with #.
