Usage of Twitter
During the scene of 2008 Mumbai attacks, an estimated number of 80 tweets were sent by the eyewitnesses in every 5 seconds. The users of Twitter on the ground helped to compile a list of the injured and dead. In addition, the users sent out important information regarding the location of nearest hospitals and nursing homes emergency phone numbers needing blood donations.
Foreign Affairs Ministry of Israel David Saranga had announced on December 30, 2008, that the government of Israel would be first to organize a world wide press conference through Twitter to take the questions from the general public about the point of war against the Hamas, in Gaza.
In January 2009, an US Airways Flight1549 came across with multiple strikes of bird and was forced to ditch in Hudson River. A passenger name Janis Krums, on one of the ferries rushed there for the immediate help and he took some pictures of the downing plane while evacuating the passengers and sends them to the Twittpic for the further assistance. It was all before the arriving of any other media personals at that scene of panic.
The Country Fire Authority of Australia took the help of Twitter to send out instant updates and alerts regarding the Victorian bushfires in February 2009.During this time Kevin Rudd, the Prime Minister of Australia, also used his account of the Twitter to send out vital information during that scene of the fires about the various assistance like donation of the blood and the money and contacts for the emergency help as a part of the rescue operation.
The first and the foremost criminal prosecution evolving from Twitter posts started in April 2009. The convict Daniel Knight Hayden was arrested by the FBI agents, supporting the protest of the Tea Party against the Barack Obama’s policies. Allegedly Hayden was sending threatening tweets of violence in connection with his aim to attend that protest in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

In that same month Brillstein-Grey and Reveille Production Entertainment made an announcement that they would soon produce a television series in which Twitter will be used to track down the famous and the celebrities.

In July 2009, a Chicago based real estate management associates, Horizon Realty Group sued Amanda Bonnen, one of its former tenant for libel based for a Twitter message sent to his friends. Horizon Realty contends that Bonnen defamed the company by making a posting of tweets against their sole interest and the privacy.
